Each time a prominent awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.
My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely during that awards season
- A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game got ignored that year
- Just some logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world and have been for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
